I agree so much with this post. It has been a joy working toward developing resources in student journalism and realising how these avenues promote community-finding (safety) and community-building (stamina) through critical inquiry and storytelling. We are having a blast.

I'm trying to foster engagement with news as a healthy habit, showing the array of stories in the newspaper, situating the more difficult stories within an array of other issues so there's a choice in what we discuss more deeply.

My city (Winnipeg) has always been known for its' "urban forest". Disease and mismanagement have taken a lot of that away. If those aren't the factors, then the trees must stay. They're so important to community wellness.
