2. horseshoe crabs (or xiphosurans) aren't actually crabs; they are in the subphylum chelicerata {containing xiphosurans, arachnids, sea spiders}, while crabs are in mandibulata {containing all other arthropods). they just look kinda like crabs so we call them that

that being said, only "males" have claspers, and the one in the back is clearly using those to grab on to the one in front, so it is a safe bet that the one in the back is "male"

pedantry time unfortunately

1. it's impossible to anatomically determine horseshoe crab reproductive role without viewing their underside. "females" tend to be larger, but that is dependent on other factors like age as well

i mean, the US very much did succeed in preventing the DPRK from liberating the southern half of the state from US occupation and in decimating korean population and infrastructure throughout the peninsula. by US military standards, that was certainly a "win" for the occupation
