you'll probably want the user to be able to specify which subsets are usable as indices / keys for lookup, so you don't have to generate all possible combinations.

i think you want to generalize this: each entry is a tuple (or even record with named fields) of size N, and you can look up all matching entries for any subset of the tuple's fields.
