Primary teacher. Haven't decided on my bluesky persona just yet
American cost of living is so much higher than UK right now (especially because of medical expenses) that the 'average worker' there is far less secure than in the UK despite more earnings. Also they work longer with fewer holidays.
The US is a better place to be rich, but much worse to be poor in.

Because of the low rates for average workers. There's a lot more average workers than wealthy ones, so that means less tax money so worse public services. While I am in favour of upping the top end and leaving the bottom alone, we do tend to overestimate how many rich people there actually are.

It's a thing that we're taught at work (teacher): be professionally curious about all your colleagues, all the time, because there is no label on anybody head saying 'wrong'un'

Exactly so, Brand's brand was always a bit 'naughty boy, can't control my winkie dinkie'. He got fired from a journalism job in 2001 for going to a fancy dress party as OBL, he always wore 'bastard' on his sleeve. Gasman* did the exact opposite.

*Autocorrect did this, and I think it is perfect.

I'd like to see the line for judicial or police-action deaths set against that graph. In general terms, when a crime graph drops that fast, especially under an end-of-spectrum government, it doesn't mean the gangsters were defeated, it means the gangsters are in charge

It's why the viva has never ceased to be an essential part of a doctorate. 'You did all this yourself and understand it all completely? Prove it'

Basically yes, the age-old primary rationale for invigilated testing- prevention of fraud - is once again proven valid

I'd give it a read if I were you, it's very good. Doesn't mention neoliberalism per se but does identify one of the competing ideological strands in today's Labour as 'neo-blairite', exemplified by Streeting, which meets many of the same definitions.

Does seem like his dealer is going to inadvertently become the next Luigi Mangione

I was more suggesting he's gonna OD on ket someday soon, but yep I imagine his inner circle is like the passenger manifest of the Orient Express
January 8, 2025 at 6:24 PM
That'll be his dealer, the way he's going at the moment
