I’m not despairing because despair clouds my vision and makes me miss the signs to a path forward. There is a path forward, there always is. I feel a lack of raw, obvious power, but the fascists want me to feel that, don’t they. I don’t know how to fight, but I will learn how.

I have been doing all the things. I have been calling my representatives. Showing up to protests. Exploring the Working Families’ Party because they have a useful platform for working folks. Etc. The effect of these actions is not obvious, though

Other people in other countries have lived through this, but as an American, falling this far is new to me. This might sound despairing, but it's not. I feel like I’m letting go of attachments (I’m a Buddhist) and seeing things clearly.

I’m a woman of color, so my whole life I’ve seen how America has failed to live up to its promise. But this is so much worse. It’s rubbed into my face far more often now, and at a much greater scale, that I have nothing except myself and whatever meager resources I have managed to gather.
