They also could have changed their names when they moved to America. It is not unheard of for Asian people to have English names in addition to those from their native lands because English speakers find them hard to pronounce.

I didn't even know about Van Dine's rules till I played Umineko and while some are fine like "Servants--such as butlers, footmen, valets, game-keepers, cooks, and the like--must not be chosen by the author as the culprit."
