Apologies for my earnest reply if you're being quippy, but I think the movie shows "the Beast" putting in the work. I grew up in a rage-filled home, and I didn't (really, truly) know there was a different way to communicate until I met my spouse. For me, it's about healing from trauma. And books!

"Science of reading" is an educational phrase that means a curriculum is phonics-based. There was a while when Bush 2 was President (and after) that many elementary schools opted for a "whole language" approach -- the curriculum basically advocated for guessing and looking at pictures.
