🔥 Pro Tip:
Don’t just pitch products—pitch stories.

❌ “We launched a new planner!”
✅ “The productivity hack Gen Z swears by (ft. our new planner).”

5️⃣ You didn’t follow up (or you followed up too much).

One polite follow-up in 4-5 days = ✅
Spamming them = 🚫

4️⃣ You pitched the wrong person.
Stop sending fashion pitches to a sports reporter.

🔍 Google: “[your topic] site:[mediaoutlet .com]”
🔍 Check their socials.
🔍 Use Muck Rack or a media database to confirm.

3️⃣ You didn’t personalize it.
If you’re starting with “Dear Journalist,” STOP.

Instead:
✔️ Call out their recent work.
✔️ Show why your pitch fits their beat.
✔️ Make it clear why it’s relevant to them.

2️⃣ Your email is too long.
If a journalist has to scroll 3+ times, they’re out.

✅ Hook them with a bold first line.
✅ Explain why it matters in 2-3 sentences.
✅ End with a clear CTA: “Would you be interested in covering this?”

1️⃣ Your subject line is boring.
If you’re using “Exciting New Product Launch” … you’re getting ignored.

Instead:
❌ “Introducing Our New Skincare Line”
✅ “The Skincare Trend That’s Fixing Acne Overnight”
