Trying out Chinese Calligraphy by D’annam. On my skin this starts bright, powdery and perfumey (very enjoyable) and then the coffee note slowly starts to emerge. It’s not the strongest coffee and the scent is ultimately quite subtle and close to the skin. Not sweet at all. I enjoy it.

I’m ignoring politics for a minute in the hopes that it all magically fixes itself. So SOTN is Iris Palladium. I haven’t worn this since I got the decant but really enjoying the aromatic vibe this evening. It’s not sweet, it has a good touch of sage and carrot seed. Really pretty.

SOTN: Madeleine by Odette. This is a very soft, almondy vanilla. Not overly cakey. Maybe a little too subtle. I regret not getting Petite Gateau instead. Also, I just don’t love a rollerball so it is taking me forever to get through this one

I’ve been neglecting my perfume oils of late so decided I needed to wear one for my bedtime scent. Went with the stupidly named Homme Femme by Bootzie, a scent I picked up from an art gallery in Hawaii. An elegant woody musk.

My 40th bday is coming up. I have wanted this Samantha Pleet dress for years. It’s $295. Is it time to pull the trigger? I’m planning on celebrating with a small bday dinner. My brother thinks it’s too camp/costumey and I recognize I may not wear it much other than my bday. Do I do it?

I went nuts at the local street fair and bought candles and body butter and body oil. So exciting! And supporting local, black woman owned businesses. And then my kids took me to the bank. We love a good shopping outing.

I want so badly to fall in love with a fragrance by Violet but I haven’t found one yet. Tried Pour Rever and it’s fine. A little nutty. Sort of goes muddy on my skin. I think it’s the cocoa note. Curious if anyone has tried and found a love by them.

SOTD: Kewpie Doll by Pearfat, an indie perfumer out of Chicago. I haven’t met Alie yet but I would love to gush to her about her amazing creations. This starts off as the most realistic plastic doll head and dries down to a gorgeous, complex sweetness. Might upgrade to a baby pear.

Update: these are my nails! I’m very pleased and I think my pointer finger looks like a Mugler bottle tribute.

SOTD is Hip-Hop by Zernell Gillie. This is so good and it includes notes I don’t tend to go for and sometimes even scare me off (green notes, labdanum) but it’s just a truly gorgeous, punchy blend. She’s no wallflower, she’s on the dance floor with a spotlight on and that’s where I want to be.

Today’s #sotd for the #abcaugust challenge is Beatrice by House of Oubliette, a fun, tropical fruity with a big dose of coconut. It smells like being at the beach with a tropical drink in hand.

SOTN: Nephophile by Odyssey. Name means a lover of clouds, this light and airy scent is slightly sweet & such a delight. I want to douse myself in it and create a scent cloud out of it. I’ll be curious whether this is a fun oddity or a soon to be addiction.

I don’t know lol. It’s just the smell of babies. Lots of Latinos use it. There are a couple of signature brands. Royal Violets by Agustin Reyes is the most popular. And para mi Bebe and a few others. They’re all good and can be bought at any drugstore in a Latin community usually.

New SOTD is Poems One Through Twelve by Universal Flowering. Totally delicious, also close to the skin (like Holy Hell). Not entirely dissimilar dry downs. I might love them both.
