I hope your parent gets the care they need. It's an excruciating situation to be in. I think most people agree involuntary care is sometimes necessary - question is when, and what safeguards are in place.

BC is one of the few jurisdictions (the only jurisdiction?) in Canada where if you're hospitalized against your will they can automatically treat you against your will. That's being challenged in court.
