I have wondered about this, too! Because I know our brains do some processing to interpret what our eyes are taking in, so theirs must do that, too. But what does that then end up looking like to them??

It took me 10 years to get published though. It took 3 years...maybe 4? To write that debut book, and it's been out for 2 years and I haven't finished anything yet since. So...¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well, I would just say... maybe take a break and see if you miss it or get inspired again? Sometimes a break is all that's all that's needed.

If it helps, I've been working on this manuscript for 2 years and I'm currently on version I-lost-count of chapter 1, not having progressed past chapter 5 yet before starting over because what I was doing wasn't working. Not...ideal. But you're definitely much farther along than me. ❤️

I would honestly suggest lowering the word count bar before quitting. Or not keep track of word count at all. I've had to stop doing that because I found it was stressing me out, which made it even harder to write. That number is going to fluctuate a ton between draft versions anyway.

I do find I have the hardest time writing when I'm worrying too much about how quickly others are able to pound out a draft when I just can't do that. Does that mean I must just not like it enough and should stop writing? Nope! It's really up to you, but I would hate for you to think you shouldn't+

Everyone works differently & at different paces. Don't compare yourself to the speedy writers out there. I'm a traditionally published author, & it can still take me over a year to write a first draft. Usually longer! I find drafting really difficult & much prefer revising & editing. +
