#PudgyHorse Lascaux Tribute 2. A companion piece to the first, following one of the other cave horses with a darker colour morph. Again, painted with pigments made by Mary Sanche from Cretaceous rocks from the Albertan badlands. From 2020.

Painting of my character, Pudgy Horse, a horse of baroque type appearance with luxuriant mane and tail, and deliberately exaggerated proportions, including short, slender legs with dainty hooves and an extremely generous girth; here painted in tribute to one of the famous horses in the Lascaux cave paintings using similar colours and simplified shapes.

At the end of a panel at Utopiales, my friend suddenly said "hey, isn't that that Canadian author you love" and lo, it was @premeemohamed.com 🤗
Then I was peer pressured into asking for a photo instead of lurking in her vicinity like a shy vulture. She was very nice about it too !

Very impressive audience for my last Utopiales panel, on a Sunday. But, then, every single last one was jam-packed. Utopiales panel organization and prep is first-rate. Best I have ever experienced. You never have to worry about a bad moderator or a ridiculous participant.

This piece from 2023 was the first time I finally tried painting on silk. I'll repost an old XTwitter thread on the process later. The bird's proportions bother me slightly now, but hey ho.

Kulindadromeus is friend-shaped.

Reworking an old drawing to offer up for sale next week.
Detail from a larger pencil drawing of a Kulindadromeus looking up at something. Kulindadromeus is a small, herbivorous neornithischian dinosaur from the middle Jurassic. It's almost wholly covered in feather-like integument, excepting its scaly tail, limb extremities, and snout. Its overall appearance might be playfully described as a kind of bird-lizard-wallaby. The very small detail is photographed with a pencil and a penny. The penny could eclipse the Kulindadromeus' entire torso.
