Because my palm rests against the screen while I draw, it lets my hand move across the screen smoothly without the oils in my skin catching.
And especially for the iPad, the screen gets hot against my hand and can be uncomfortable after drawing for awhile.

Of the items to forget, it's definitely the least consequential. But it still makes drawing on screens less annoying.
