But then we see a reclaimation (sometimes! In some communities!) of language used to degrade people into in-group signifiers, which in imo is good refutation that stands against a state or corporate declaration of acceptable inspeak

I think i struggle with how we're moving language around via corporate gatekeepers -- whereas i've seen my generation move into acceptable/unacceptable social speech dictated via more or less actions vs inalienable traits...

One thing i wish i had brought up was the timeliness of the movies to their settings, esp regarding Candy Man: namely, how the imagery of desert storm was reflected (ie: the decrepit, almost bombed out buildings of cabrini-green in the movie vs shock and awe, highway shots vs highway of death)
