This is why I love Rogue One and Andor. They answer the question of why does Luke hate the empire? What did they do to earn his general hate as a farmhand?

I got bored with the Madalorian, but Rogue One and Andor are superb. In A New Hope, when Luke says, “I hate the empire just like anyone,” it’s kind of an empty line. Like, *why* does everyone hate the empire? Rogue One and Andor tell that story and give more depth to the og trilogy

You might like The Years of Rice and Salt by Kim Stanley Robinson. It’s an alternate history where the black death takes out all of Europe instead of a third of it. Asia and Americas dominate instead and reincarnation is used to keep the same character mentalities but in new situations/families
