I code for work, I get varianced for fun. Also, I enjoy waffles. Genderfluid, he/any. 両刀使い
the game has a really high number of ways you can build the job per job, and it isn't intuitive (to me) exactly how to pick a lane, esp. if you don't have the aggro mitigation of pets:. eg: engineer dies FAST and none of the engineer healing is that powerful

I think its just that 'you may find the Bible (in some interpretations) good for meaning and moral guidance, lots of people do, I can respect that, but if you think it's universal guidance? don't go to the halls of learning, you are committed to not learning'

yeah, i saw it wasn't a huge deal anymore, but that prompted me to let you know, hey, that's something I've always appreciated. that doesn't have to change your behavior at all, but you deserve and deserved to know
November 29, 2025 at 11:15 PM
this movie buff stuff from you i have always thought was cool and appreciated since way back, as it's all so outside my domain

and not being able to equip two weapons because of my heavy armor and 20+ pound weapons was legitimately frustrating, but the fail case i fell into was just fucking pounding everything to death with one weapon!
November 29, 2025 at 2:40 PM
it was so effective it was annoying to just sit on the same weapon from the moment we got the ruins greatsword! but it just fucking worked, atk power of 900+ for 100 hours with only marginal upgrades or elemental flexibility available
November 29, 2025 at 2:38 PM
totally, I'm fully in support of your thesis here and you did a really good job of communicating clearly where your frustration lay
November 29, 2025 at 2:33 PM
There were enemies, even bosses, that I almost poise broke by my fucking self, where in any other build, would have never been stopped for a moment. It was a real eye opener.
November 29, 2025 at 2:31 PM
Also, having only one FP flask also made me so goddamn able to keep going compared to a more even setup.
November 29, 2025 at 2:29 PM
As the player in question, Fox is 100% correct here. Fox clearly had better game and technique knowledge the whole way, but even compared to my previous playthroughs, my 101+ poise mono strength ability to take hits and power through them to deal damage and poise break was night and day.

(as a kusoge player and runner, as a queer creator and performer, I reject the concept of 'these are the kinds of games/creators/genres/platforms that should be liked'

queer everything. love what you love. play what you enjoy. it doesn't need to meet some abstract judgment of good or palatable.)
November 29, 2025 at 7:52 AM
(to be clear, I saw a lot of people legitimately enjoy and love Claire obscura. I enjoy games too.

The Games Awards is not about any of that. Awards shows are social constructs wherein people create structures around 'this is what we think should be valued, and our judgments are official')

I saw another article today acting like team cherry were foolish and did not understand what they were doing as devs by spending a long time tuning their game and trying to make it so you had multiple ways to approach things, and the evidence was that people made mods for their game. Just... yeah.
November 29, 2025 at 7:17 AM
hell yeah
November 29, 2025 at 7:08 AM
team cherry put years into what is clearly a masterwork, but I can't go a goddamn week without seeing another story bring up how punishing and unlikeable the game is

palatable is the perfect word to describe whats going on, and why we all know what game is gonna win GOTY
November 29, 2025 at 7:06 AM
you could ignore every mainline FF and DQ put out and Square has still put their name behind so many ideas. saga games, the mana games, the world ends with you, crystal chronicles, kingdom hearts, bravely default, octopath traveller, nier... but we needed clair obscura to revitalize jrpgs? nah fam
November 29, 2025 at 7:01 AM
look at the responses to every fucking mainline FF in the past 20 years and tell me the western game media has done anything other than want to write about the death of a series that has innovated repeatedly and doesn't get any goddamn credit in English media.
November 29, 2025 at 6:50 AM
enjoy the game all you want, but I don't want to see any of this 'revitalizes jrpgs' or 'fixes jrpgs' shit. western games media decided jrpgs were dead because they didn't like them over a decade ago, just like they have decided the followup to fucking hollow knight was too punishing
November 29, 2025 at 6:45 AM
the other half of this, of course, is that hollow knight silksong is plagued by discourse how it is egregiously punishing

team cherry was 100% correct. people have been riding that games dick all year talking about how it revitalizes jrpgs, which is bullshit. quite palatable for western audiences
November 29, 2025 at 6:41 AM
notably, none of that is fucking innovative. thank God a French studio could take jrpg ideas decades old, mix in soulslike combat and make them palatable, while western audiences treat ff13 like shit and then whine about ff16 which is made to western sensibilities
