The UK plans to commission a new generation of killer underwater robots, paid for and commanded by the military, but owned and operated by private contractors… seems dystopian, right?

Getting the message out about the weaintbuyingit.com campaign — asking people to avoid shopping at Amazon, Target, and Home Depot over this holiday weekend in response to their collaboration with America's burgeoning fascist regime.

There's a catchy new whistle-awareness video out from @thenyic.bsky.social:

We combined our usual halloween candy distribution with some political tabling, giving out mini chocolates, baby potatoes, community-defense whistles, "ICE OUT" stickers, and political zines... something for everyone!

Our son Alex took the lead on pumpkin carving this year.

I normally work from home, but spent Thursday in an office tower in the financial district, as an intense rainstorm rattled the windows and then faded to reveal a rainbow above the Brooklyn Bridge.

My mom had just turned twenty when she staged a sit-in at the White House, and ended up spending six months in jail as a result.

I had assumed that one day I would be able to go on a White House tour and follow her path, but it turns out that this was another of the things Trump has taken from us.

Among the areas of the White House destroyed on Trump's orders this week was the Garden Room where my mother, Sheila Ryan, helped stage the first sit-in at the White House, sixty years ago, calling for federal intervention to protect the Selma-Montgomery marchers in the wake of "Bloody Sunday."

I should have worn my straw hat, but I forgot it at home and picked up quite a sunburn as a result.

My son and I helped marshal a protest of over a hundred people marching down St Nicholas from 193rd to 167th to demand an end to ICE raids and funding of the community's health care and education. The chants (in Spanish) included "end the raids and deportations" and "we are workers, not criminals."

I spent a lovely hour outside of Trump Tower with my friends from @riseandresist.bsky.social, telling the world that we reject Trump's fascism and that he should keep his tiny little hands off of New York City.

We had ice cream trucks circulating midtown Manhattan as well! Summer may be over, but ice cream season runs for at least a couple more weeks...

Why didn’t anyone tell me that resisting fascism was going to require getting up before noon?
September 27, 2025 at 4:03 PM
Kudos to whoever is going around Manhattan and putting up these links to help people get connected to the resistance.

In the span of three days we've found one in midtown and then another up by Columbia — I wonder how much of the city they've reached?

I took almost no photos during Saturday's mass march, because I had my hands full marshaling, but I did snap this one showing some of our lead banners surrounded by a media scrum amidst the towers of Park Avenue.

Around two hundred people took to the streets Tuesday as Trump was on his way to the UN in order to tell the world that his tyranny does not represent us. About fifty people were arrested as they blocked traffic and the rest of us chanted and made a fuss.

As I was biking around midtown today, I stumbled on a picket line outside NYC's Park Lane Hotel; their signs and fliers explained that the lobby restaurant's workers were recently fired for unionizing.

I headed down to Trump Tower today with my friends from @riseandresist.bsky.social to say "Hands Off NYC" and make it clear that we do not want to see Federal troops deployed to our city. #HandsOffNYC

In and out of the courthouse in less than an hour; no charges on file, as the cops either never submitted the ticket or it was found to be completed incorrectly.

The rest of our group of ten was split evenly between no charges filed or case dismissed for facial insufficiency. #AmericanJusticeAtWork

That feeling when you want to end fascism, but hate getting up in the morning.

(Off to my court date for blocking traffic outside the ICE detention facility a few weeks ago.)

Around 2,750 people showed up outside the NYC Public Library Saturday to demand the world take action: "Stop Starving Gaza."

Called by the Palestine Youth Movement, the rally featured Mahmoud Khalil and Chris Smalls, followed by a march to Tenth Avenue and then up to Columbus Circle.
