As a 5’11’ afab, it’s the opposite for me. I’m tall enough that from afar, people are more likely to mistake me for a guy. But I always carry a little guilt that I’m “betraying the tall girlies” by not being a girl

Ahaha. Also I just checked and her claim of Nakahara-ku being 15 minutes to Tokyo by train? Technically true but that’s just to cross the city line. If you want to get to Shibuya etc. it’s over an hour.

Sorry but that just feels intentionally misleading now, esp in combination with everything else

A couple more thoughts:

The exchange rate makes the yen prices in this article look better than they are

The writer is from SoCal, one of the most expensive places in the US, so yeah ¥74,000 is still pennies in comparison

Seriously I’m glad she’s living the dream over there but it’s irresponsible to suggest that everyone can do what she’s doing. I hope people take this article with a spoonful of salt

And second, maybe the terms have changed but going freelance is going to make her visa renewal much more difficult. I had a stable income and a corporate sponsorship and it was still a question as to whether I’d get my visa renewal approved. And I think digital nomad visas are only 6 months
