Not the OP but I once read an excellent discussion of it which said that WY's self-sacrifice is also based on him seeing himself as both tough and expendable. JC can't live without a GC but I can, I am smart and resourceful, I have to take care of my shidi/clan, I'll work sth out, etc.

I love this and I'll be looking forward to reading it your fic. I think some modern aus lean too much into WWX's low self-worth, especially when it comes to dating LWJ. I would love to see more of the cocky genius WY or the warm and ironic genius WY I love in canon.

Loved it! There is a version on AO3 where they had to do more than kiss. LXC comes to the BM and WWX goes: Of course I'll help, I'll research curses in CR library, maybe WQ can come along? and LXC is like: Thank you so much Master Wei, I left the oil on the table for you. It cracked me up!

AI didn't read the book! Although what he did to Wen Chao, WenZh and WangLJ, not to mention the rest of the Wen armies, is pretty damn terrifying, let's give him that.

It's the gold standard of the genre, the absolute best and contains the most hot and simultaneously heartbreaking scenes. The podfic is incredible too.

Thank you, I not only reread it (and cried again) but also discovered the excellent director's commentary Deastar wrote for us all and inhaled that as well. What an amazing fic.
