There’s still so much work ahead of us. But if we stay strong, stay in the fight, and remain determined to push forward, we will continue to strengthen our representative democracy. It’s up to us to carry these values forward — in our communities, in our organizing, and in our daily lives.

They stepped up to take on the monumental challenge of a mayoral campaign with eagerness, care, and integrity. For that, I am humbled and forever grateful. I’ve learned so much from them and am honored to have had them as part of this journey.

Reaching for a shared dream, working toward it together — that in itself is victory. Personally, as the campaign manager for DeWayne Davis, I couldn’t be prouder of our volunteers, supporters, and especially the staff. Without their dedication, we wouldn’t have made it to Election Day.

To the staffers, volunteers, candidates, families, and so many others who rarely get the spotlight but pour their hearts into this work — you should feel deeply proud. We all learned lessons from this election, and the act of learning itself is an accomplishment.

Even though Dr. DeWayne Davis, Senator Omar Fateh, and Jazz Hampton did not win, I know we can all be proud of what we built together. This movement showed that campaigns grounded in love and centered on people are not only possible — they are powerful.

If you’re feeling sad, angry, or simply exhausted today, I understand. But I also believe those emotions are part of what it means to love something deeply. They show that we haven’t given up that we’re ready to keep fighting for what we believe in and continue the work of pushing this city forward.

That love is what makes this city great. It’s not the policies, the government, or the businesses — it’s the people. And Minneapolis, you are looking greater than ever because of that love.

The first one of love is because of the people of minneapolis. Every time I see this city, I’m reminded of the residents who call it home — the tremendous love they have for one another and for their community.
