To your point, Reed works well with Adams because of those monster screens.

“Can the Rockets survive the non-Sheppard minutes?” Is a totally legit question

I would rank Northwestern among the better schools with a secondary intercardinal direction in its name.

But the defense was truly excellent. Cleveland has no clue against the double bigs.

A total FAFO game for Denver. Makes me feel even better about our win over Orlando, which was a similar type of game.

Sengun will be key for the Rockets. Not sure Portland has anybody who can guard him.

It would be interesting to develop a list of elite NBA “culture fixers.” You have to be at least a starting caliber player—or else nobody will listen to you—and have a tremendous work ethic and vocal leadership skills.

My barber doesn’t follow politics, doesn’t know Taylor Swift, and barely knows sports. We spend a lot of quiet time together. It’s heavenly.

Honest question: what is the probability that Reed turns out to be a better shooter over his career than Klay Thompson? I’d say the chances are low, but certainly not zero.

I always find Craig’s FT defense amusing.

They are pretty even-handed in their calls as well. They don’t hesitate to criticize the Rockets when the team plays poorly.

You'll enjoy the game. Reed was great--he kept us in the game when things seemed to be slipping away.

I think he needs to start. Without a true point guard, I don't think we have quite enough ball handling and shooting to withstand pressure from elite defenses (OKC, DET, SA).

That Rockets cleaned up on the offensive glass without Adams is telling. Did not understand the strategy of double-teaming Durant every possession. You have to vary your defensive schemes at some point

The Rockets really regressed tonight:

*Poor FT shooting (20-30, 67%)
*Poor 3pt shooting (8-29, 28%)
*17 TOs
*Got outhustled several times by an undermanned Dallas team.

We'll take the win, but the Rockets won't get away with playing that poorly against most teams.

You just don’t get it! We are on the cusp of an AI golden age that will allow us to produce useless bureaucratic slop and shitty marketing reports far more efficiently than ever before.

Jabari is going to great looks this season when the Rockets go jumbo. Most teams will put their worse perimeter defender on him. He will have a lot of mismatches.

That sounds about right to me. $18 million per year is solid 6th-man/5th starter money. Given his injury history, Tari would be smart to lock in generational money now. He’ll have at least one more shot at a bigger payday down the road.
October 12, 2025 at 3:10 PM
Totally fair--but especially when he started, Reed showed real flashes last year. Best-case scenario: Reed is good enough so that the Rockets are highly competitive in the first half of the season, so it makes sense for them to move some of their draft picks for a veteran PG at the deadline.

Let's say Amen Thompson sprains an ankle and is out for two weeks. Who starts in his place? [I don't think Amen is the Rockets' best player yet, but I think he is the most "irreplaceable" given the current roster].

Simmons first raised it in a highly speculative way, but Lowe agreed it was an interesting possibility pending a major leap. They liked the idea of disruptors off the bench.
September 12, 2025 at 1:52 AM
Off-topic, but maybe a good Rocketswire story: on the Zach Lowe podcast, Lowe and Bill Simmons had a fun discussion about their early picks for Team USA, 2028 edition. Both had Amen Thompson as a top player off the bench, while Tari got mentioned as a possible darkhorse pick.

I'm confused about how articles in the database are treated in the settlement agreement. Are they counted as the same as books? They don't have ISBNs, so I doubt they count. Should I register them just in case?

Well put, Ben. I really appreciate your willingness to stand up for common decency when many sports journalists shrug their shoulders and rationalize that these issues "are not my lane."
