That’s amazing. Fewer and fewer of those kinds of players around now. I love that dudes like Ron Carter and Herbie are still playing.

Oh, man - that’s hard. Yeah, I’m taking lessons from a player I really like. Learning tons - great mix of theory and technique and just playing.

Pretty good and improving. Main challenge is w soloing. Still nowhere near good, but now I’m embarrassed less often!

We played Tunisia in one of our shows. That’s a great tune but it’s a freakin’ workout on a bassist’s hands.

And, yes - role is pretty doable. I’m def challenged, but am pretty committed to being at least not terrible! We have a great director (who is also a bassist), so he handles the traffic patterns and gives great feedback and pointers.

Tonight was first rehearsal w new batch of tunes, so we took it kinda easy on tempos, but will work up to full speed for our next show in a couple months. For blues, we did Equinox last time and it went really well. Love that tune.

Played bass guitar in rock bands since I was a kid.

That’s so cool! I play upright for folk/bluegrass/old-time, but have been playing bass guitar so far for the jazz stuff. Just starting to dip a toe in the upright for jazz world - it’s def the goal!

I’ve *finally* gotten serious about learning to play jazz bass and have spent the last year studying and playing in a workshop band. I’m having a ball. Are you aiming to play out?
