100%. I have traveled all over the world and it is great if you get the chance, but you can be enriched just by exploring your own neighborhoods and experiences!

Again, I’m lost as to your quest here. You said ignore, then you told me all the things I shouldn’t ignore. So I’m going to just bow out of this one.

Again, advice/coaching/therapy exists along a spectrum, which is why I questioned your use of “clinical”. People are rushing to use AI in billable psych because it is costly; I think it has much more promise in thought partnership far earlier in the spectrum. Think “The Diamond Age”.

You set the boundary conditions of the question, not me. “Where are there benefits if we can figure out how to mitigate the harms?” is a reasonable question.

Except you explicitly said to set aside known AI harms? It feels like you asked for a view and then immediately started arguing with me.

I’m lost. “Not at all” meaning that wasn’t the original question? Or advice/counseling isn’t an answer to it?

The top. My understanding was the question where do folks on the left that see some promise in LLMs, putting aside harms, see that promise. Was that wrong?

Cool. Maybe I’m confused as to the intent of your question?

I think we have a tendency to see mental health as binary, rather than a spectrum. In physical health, we have a nice gradient of everything from the lady at the gym who seems like she knows what she’s doing to a professional trainer to PT tech to a physiatrist.

So I’m not sure how to answer.

I’m center left (sometimes far left) and not adamant but absolutely think it has potential as a “guide on the side” for therapy and advice.
