With Stormbringer in hand, Elric wheels in surprise as mist swirls and gives way to an enormous skeletal figure. The tip of a trident points down at the albino warrior, who wears a yellow tunic over scaled armor and a brilliant red cloak that captures his turning motion. The lich king wears a gold helm with horns curling back. The purple fabric covering it is in tatters, revealing a segmented gold shoulder belt and other jewelry. Its desiccated skin is shriveled on bone, making it clear the figure is undead. Points of red light shine in the shadowed orbitals of its skull. The pale green cloud billowing around the villain is populated by horrific visages of demons.

WINTER ENCHANTMENT (1997)

At the height of the winter, the nights may stretch longer but the days are always full of wonder. That magic of possibilities is what I tried to capture in this painting. 1/3
In a wintry forest scene, a fairy descends on delicate wings to touch the top a snowy evergreen with a long crystal wand. A crystalized snowflake materializes at the tip as a troop of ice fairies dance with ballerina-like grace while adding lights around the tree. A clear patch of ice reflects the small but festive tree. Off to the side, an elf hides in another snow burdened tree holding up the artists MW sigil. The art was intended to fold into a pyramid shaped card so the perspective is a fishbowl-like view of the forest tapering to the full moon that shows through a break in the clouds.

WINTER RETURNING (1994)

This started as a whim on a scrap of illustration board—a “leftover” before I found that designation for such small sketchy work. I was riffing with colors and not expecting anything to come from the shapes I was playing with. 1/2

Atop her head rests a circlet of holly and berries. The background is a forest in winter with the ground white and small fir trees rising amid thick trunks of older forest growth.
