Mostly here for cybersecurity stuff and trying to stay up to date with the world at large. Maybe I’ll post a thought or two.
A panel of experts??? Every day I’m reminded at how ineffective American journalism is.

I understand the sentiment but the goal is to think long term. There is no option where the people in charge are not in charge for 4 years. The people that benefit from the NIH need the NIH to work. If the thing preventing the NIH from functioning is a ‘win’, however small, then it’s necessary.

This is correct but not how this game is played. You need to know that people in charge are treating it like a corporation, therefore corporate politics now apply. I agree with Cuban, give those in charge ‘a win’ so you can get back to the real work.

Glad I deleted it. My first post when it launched was ‘man this app totally missed the mark, this sucks’. It still sucked when I deleted it, albeit maybe 5% less than launch.

This is your bubble. I’ve seen a few accounts praising him and trying to ‘correct the record’ on his 2020 EO too. The majority of my bubble is calling it what it is though.

Please get Skylight off the ground. We need an alternative.

I don’t expect anything to be different right away. I expect a gradual shift in algorithmic preferences to happen over the next 3-6 months to prioritizing certain narratives and suppressing others. Proceed accordingly I guess.

I felt like early TikTok (2018-2020) was similar to Reels in that it rewarded any engagement, particularly negative engagement. Later on it seemed to tailor the feed to your interests, respond to preferences and promote related but new content more than anything else.

Tiktok caused a huge increase in book sales, to the point where local libraries and even Barnes and Noble created a ‘BookTok’ section based on whatever books were trending on the app.

Someone on Reddit in Canada mentioned that there is a very noticeable drop in views and engagement and an increase in local content versus international. Running joke is that they can use the metric system freely

Many of the TikToks in a vacuum aren’t really that funny, especially to someone outside the app. But it’s the sum of its parts - parodies, repetition, context of the moment - that make it work.

IMO Think about when you were a teenager and you and your friends witnessed a funny thing. Then you joke about the thing, and make derivative jokes about that. Eventually you’re so far removed from the event, but the shared experience and follow-on bits make the original that much more memorable.

My wife, child and I all connected over it. That’s the part I’ll miss. Connecting with people in real life in new ways, and people I’ve never met online.

I had coworkers that did this constantly until I finally dumped my families dramatic history with violent alcoholism, drug abuse and addiction on them in the middle of a work party. They never asked again. It shouldn’t have to get to that point.

Bernie, in my experience in the northeast, cuts through the divide. I know a good number of Trump supporters that respect Bernie and his message beyond party lines. Populism is a winning message.
