In response to our industrial action, the university proposed a resolution that removed the threat of compulsory redundancies for the next year and introduced a negotiation process over course closures. And at our branch meeting, we accepted this offer.

And I'd also add that while I can quite imagine that it was difficult to get the maintenance grants through, and that it must be frustrating to know that your policies aren't enough, but wish people would recognise you really are trying. But, that's part of the job of a politician. 5/

Add to that that universities are a net positive to the economy, but if that doesn't satisfy the treasury, then I dunno, how about a land tax? 4/

This forces institutions who have relied on international student income to dig deeper and recruit more domestic students, which has a knock on effect, due to the removal of the institutional student cap, of taking students away from the institutions that didn't. 3/

My levy criticism: a key part of the artificial funding crisis in HE is pressure on international student recruitment, caused by successive governments trying to fiddle the immigration figures by reducing student visas. Adding the levy on top of that exacerbates the issue. 2/

And because the Right are entirely predictable and completely incompetent at stats they took that to mean “51% of people in adverts are black”

And that’s NOT FAIR because only 4% of the UK population is black so they’re taking WHITE acting jobs (or words to that effect…🙄)
