Former LibDem MP for Ludlow, & 2024 General Election candidate for South Shropshire
Director, Green Planning Studio Ltd.
It’s going to be a busy three years but I’m confident I’ll still find the time for walking South Shropshire’s beautiful hills, visiting castles and abbeys, and if my knees permit, still playing a game or two of cricket for Much Wenlock.

Since then support for the Conservatives has fallen further, whilst rising for Reform, leaving experts predicting on current polling the general election in South Shropshire Constituency would be a tight finish between Liberal Democrats and Reform.

In the last general election, Conservatives’ vote almost halved in South Shropshire, finishing on 34.1%, whilst LibDem’s share almost doubled to finish on 31.0%. Labour and Greens received a combined 17.1% between them, they aren’t in the fight here.

Many have already reached out with offers of help in order to fight off the threat of Reform in South Shropshire. I believe it’s our patriotic duty to do so. If you want to help, please comment on this post or message me

It’s the strongest motivation for me to stand and win in South Shropshire. I want to be able to look my children in the eye and say I didn’t stand back, I played my part to the fullest extent I could, in helping resist the rise of xenophobic populist nationalism in our country.

In South Shropshire with the continued rapid collapse of the Conservative Party, at the moment it appears the next general election will be between the Liberal Democrats and Reform. We need to help stop the UK descending into a very dark place.

The next general election, although probably in 2029, already seems likely to be the most important of my lifetime. With the rise of Reform and their politics of division, distrust and dishonesty, the very essence of what the UK stands for is at stake.

In July 2024 despite becoming the candidate at very short notice, the fabulous team around me in South Shropshire helped produce a stunning 23.4% swing from Conservative to LibDem, almost regaining the seat. Short by just 1,624 votes.

It’s also time for the country to make sure that those who created this unmitigated economic failure: Farage, the pro #Brexit Tories etc. never get an opportunity to do more harm to the UK.

Stokesay #Castle was a minor royalist garrison in the English Civil War, but was surrendered without a fight. The subsequent slighting was limited to lowering the walls. There was however a small battle fought nearby on 10th June 1645.

Stokesay is the UK’s finest medieval fortified house, and I’m not just saying that because it’s in South #Shropshire.
