Legal counsel for Camp Mystic previously said the flooding was unexpected, with no adequate warning system in place and disagreed with “several accusations and misinformation” in the suits but didn’t offer specifics, saying they will "thoroughly respond ... in due course."

The McCown family, whose 8-year-old daughter Linnie died at Camp Mystic, told us in their first interview in September that her death was "100% preventable" and if mandatory evacuations were a policy, "these kids would still be alive."

BCNU President Adriane Gear said the incident highlights deeper safety concerns that go beyond the physical damage: “What happened at CDH is shocking, but it is not an isolated incident."

Camp Mystic's full statement:

"Cile Steward is one of the Heaven’s 27 children that is still missing,” Childress said. “Camp Mystic is planning to reopen with the body of one of these girls in the waters outside their camp. I’ll let you form your own opinions on what that means to you.”
