Tbh, another reason to mix high and low culture into your arthouse fiction, or at least put action scenes into it is that way it appeals to normies. Sure, maybe 5% of your audience will pick up everything you'll put down...

Genres aren't the same thing as target demographics.
The more you explore a genre and genre studies the more you realize a genre can be subverted enough to appeal to anyone.
