The problem with Carvill's piece is they're learning extra wrong lessons. It's true that Dems need to focus on things like affordability and against the rich, but you don't need to complain about minorities too. Mamdani stayed on message, he didn't focus on trans rights, he just supported them.

Faz Shakir argued that while candidates should answer questions if they get them from Bernie or a Medicare for all organization, they should respond to them, but if they get one like the one from ACU, they should “tear that up, you not respond to it.” 🧵7/9

But even looking at just people in prison or immigrant detention, people need to understand that gender-affirming surgeries aren’t always a 1-and-done deal. Sometimes they need follow-up surgeries to stop infections and other issues, unless they risk further health issues, pain, and even death. 🧵6/9

Not to mention that “comprehensive treatment associated with gender transition” isn’t just surgery, it's Mental Health Support, fertility issues, and other primary care support. Some might argue that trans people being able to have insurance as treatment associated with gender transition. 🧵5/9

Anyone on Medicaid, Medicare, Veterans, the disabled, people in poverty, foster care children, Native Americans, and federal employees. 🧵4/9

I've seen people bring this up, but they don’t often say the actual question, just a fragment of it from their memory, focused just on the prison/immigrant detention part of the question. It's irresponsible; the Republicans will always find ways to lie about trans people. We don’t need to help. 🧵3/9
