Anyway, here's that interview. It certainly made me muse and ponder, if you haven't guessed already. www.culturesuite.co/articles/cul...

But we clearly need to talk about this more and share more sustainable options so that we can enjoy the culture we deem essential (on a personal level) while mitigating those choices on an environmental level.

There are no clear answers and I'm not sure where I'm going with this—I was just curious about the impact of my music addiction.

I've cut meat from my diet quite easily, but I don't think I could ever give up music. Travel is another one that's highly impactful on the planet (and something I love), but I'd argue that life would be less divisive if more people travelled and experienced other cultures.

Most of us agree that big lifestyle changes are required in our mission to become more sustainable. And few of us are perfect when it comes to sustainable choices. But how far do we take those sacrifices before life becomes dreary?
December 6, 2024 at 4:25 PM
Almost everyone relates to the philosophy that life is sacred and that we should make the most of it, but that often conflicts with sustainability. For many, austerity doesn't exactly sound like fun.

Yes, there are efficiency gains we can make that have no downsides. But there are many things we could do that require a choice between quality of life and helping the planet or personal enjoyment and mitigating rising sea levels.

Music is pretty essential to my life. But there are other aspects of life I've been able to cut down in a bid to reduce my carbon footprint but I think that's ultimately the big question when grappling with environmental choices.

Streaming 2 billion mins of music emits emissions equivalent to 1k flights from London to New York. My Wrapped said I streamed just over 45k mins of music; emissions of 80 miles on a plane (don't come to me for gasp-inducing stats) but that's just me—there are over 600 million users on Spotify.
December 6, 2024 at 4:25 PM
As everyone shares their Spotify Wrapped statistics like a badge of honour (as I've done many times) there's an environmental cost to obtaining that badge, so I did some napkin maths.

But there's something more important I want to highlight from my interview with Gareth Edwards at GoCodeGreen. We share a number of eye-opening stats that are meant to be shocking, yes, but also made me ponder my said bad habits—one of which is my habitual reliance on music.

I'm hoping the recent mini-doc by @ledbydonkeys.org opened a few eyes.

Undoubtedly, some farmers are going to be affected and the Gov should have done a better job communicating this change to them. But when the supposed 'face of farming" is unable to answer single questions and resorts to blowing hot air, is he really doing the farming sector any favours here?
