The purpose of a business is to produce a return on investment for its shareholders through profit maximisation (charging the highest amount the market is willing to bear for a good or service) - you do not owe businesses any loyalty as an employee or a customer. 🧵

Ubiquiti has released UniFi Network Application 10.1.85 - I've updated to it and everything is going smoothly. Regarding the update to my UXG Max Gateway, although I have seen some reports regarding issues with other models, everything is working well with mine but then again there are so many variables that could cause issues (not to mention that in the comment section people are running out of date software so I don't think probably helps the situation either).

I woke up this morning and found that Apple had released an avalanche of updates. I've updated all of my devices and here are a few things I noticed: On my iPhone 17 Pro Max the carrier settings has been updated from 67.0 to 68.0 - I'm unsure what it could be related to other than a guess that it is related to the shutting down of the 3G network in favour of a pure 4G and 5G network (I'm with Skinny which is a sub brand of Spark and thus uses the Spark mobile network - they're at the moment moving their infrastructure from Huawei to Nokia for 4G and 5G along with using Ericsson, Cisco and a few others).

The litmus test for politicians and political party.
The simple litmus test I have for whether a politician and their party is worth considering is whether their entire campaign is centred around culture wars rather than real policies that actually address the material conditions of the working class. With the election in New Zealand scheduled for November this year the usual culture war nonsense is trotted out by the usual suspects with the media pearl clutching and behaving as if this was the first time said politicians and their party have ever engaged in it even though it has been their modus operandi ever since they were founded over 30 years ago.

It amazes me the number of tech dudes who whine about Siri not being able to set an alarm - ah yes, because picking up your phone, opening the clock app and then creating an alarm is so difficult, time consuming and laborious. Talk about a generation of people suffering from learned helplessness.

It amazes me the number of people who equate communism/socialism with isolationism - it isn't a contradiction for communist/socialist countries to trade with other communist/social countries or non-communist/non-socialist countries for that matter.

I wonder whether Windows 11 will eventually get around to supporting FRED which is present in Panther Lake and rumoured to be included in Zen 6 based CPUs/SoCs. Nothing mentioned online so far - maybe closer to the release of 26H2 they'll make that announcement?

Arrived back at home and checked my letter box - the CD I ordered off Discogs (it was posted from the United Kingdom) arrived: I checked the CD, perfect condition and I ripped the music to my FLAC collection to back up to the cloud then to AAC format for my iPhone. I've had a quick listen to the tracks and I'm very happy that I made the purchase - not a single track that I felt I needed to skip.

Kid Rock, the guy who puts out the song that builds up your hope with the opening resulting in you thinking, "ooh, is this Sweet Home Alabama? or is it Werewolves of London?...nope, just some asshole's subpar song based on a opening from two actual good songs but his own song is disappointing".

Hot take: Using an appliance like a tablet doesn't make you technology literate.

I say that because it is remarkable the number of young people who think they're 'tech savvy' yet don't know how to navigate a file system, how to use folders/directories, problem solve when faced with an issue etc.

I've got my laptop bag and swipe card all organised as well as lunch too because last week I forgot all about it resulting in me buying something at work when ideally I should have bought something from home which I made sure of this time.

Almost the end of the shift.
I'm enjoying my lunch break and catching up on some politics on YouTube - Donald Trump has become so toxic that there are now Republicans are saying to Trump "woah, woah, hang on, maybe you should sit this one out..." when it comes to Trump trying to involve them in senate and congressional races. The most recent example of that would be Trump throwing his support behind John Sununu from the New Hampshire federal senate election - Trump is deluded enough to convince himself that his endorsement is something people want but given how his popularity has nose dived the endorsement is closer to being a kiss of death.

My routine got thrown out this week when I headed into the office then had an early start the next day where I had to get up at 7:45am but I'm used to getting to sleep at around 2am so I only ended up getting around 5 hours sleep. The net result was after that early day I was exhausted by the end and needed to have an early night in bed rather than going for a walk - getting a decent night sleep is more important than going for a walk.

It is funny how the biggest AI cheerleaders in the tech influencer space have suddenly read the room and changed their tune - it is almost as though people tune in to people they agree with which confirms what they already believe rather than to have their existing beliefs being challenged.

Just thinking of all the things that have occurred over the last few weeks - the speech given by Mark Carney, the free trade agreement between the EU and India, murmurs regarding China wanting to position itself as the reserve currency and all the discussion regarding the latest tranche of Epstein related documents that were made available. That doesn't even touch on the United States budget negotiations, the behaviour of ICE and Border Patrol agents not to mention the real economy is cratering while the share market booms as day traders are getting on their own supply.

Ah, I love working from home, being able to enjoy a quiet place to work, being able to grab a coffee within arm reach. I'm reading through 'WECG Meetings 2026, Public Notes—Jan 29, 2026' and there is a good amount of stuff that is happening in terms of harmonising implementations, addressing the short comings of MV3 when compared to MV2. It'll be interesting to see whether in the long term Firefox will keep supporting MV2 particularly if the limitations of MV3 are addressed (which appears to be the case) and the benefits of MV3 outweigh the technical debt associated with maintaining MV2.

Sure, I'm open to it as long as Australia adopt MMP and go back to the cross media ownership laws prior to the John Howard govt - the law change that the John Howard government passed has enabled the media concentration that exists today.

I find it rather funny the number of gamers who are now complaining about the current state of affairs when it comes to the cost of computer components considering that they enabled this mess by spending a large amount of their social capital on promoting the Trump and platforming AI tech dude bros.

I had an early start today - up and out of the bed at 7:45am and off to catch the train to work by 8:30am. I was making great time until I ended up at the train station to then find that the train was 15 minutes late with no explanation given. It was kind of strange there was the delay given that the express train that comes before the one I was going to take arrived on time (well, it didn't arrive per se as so much as it went past the train station without stopping).
