great example: check out the amazing dude who illustrated AEW wrestlers x Justice League for DC comics. in the video you get to see how he uses references etc..

It comes down to what references mean to u. E.g. thumbnailing/draft sketching is great to get an idea of what you're tryna show, and references would work if- say u wanted to draw Goku- you'd get dozens of pics of Goku in different angles to help u draw em in the way u wanna show, right

if you are interested in learning it there's some cool beginners tuts on YT, the UI was always daunting so I stayed away from it but the thought sculpting/3D printing my own figures was the perfect shot of dopamine I needed to start😅that and making custom toys for my nieces, hopefully!✨

another angle of Skye Blue from #BloodandGuts🩸🩸🩸
this took me 2 long days to model and paint/texture on. it's a long, fun process, but a healthy challenge for sure, gonna continue refining it..eyelashes, eyes, skin texture, reshape a little...🫡🥹 @aewontv.bsky.social

my work flow usually goes like:
write down idea (+with dialogue) > rough draft/sketch > build layout > references > draw > ink > colour > extra fx.

ofc it's a whole process and changes occur now and then. but references should assist u throughout the process whenever u need it.

I think when making the comic page as long as you have your panels written down, like what you wanna show, what action is happening/dialogue etc. then you can find references relative to those, and then figure out how to make them flow together so it doesn't look too abrupt or awkwardly clunky?

never stop using references!!!! 😊 I use Pinterest/Tumblr + other art blogs- e.g. if I'm making creature art I'll look at human/animal anatomy refs. lighting/portrait too. also as a starting base don't be afraid to draw over a photo if u need. the more u practice using refs the better it'll be for u🫡

100% agree. it's pretty intuitive and you deffo feel rewarded even with the most basic-basic amount of knowledge. Highly recommend getting into it, esp since it's a free software. Thank God for youtube tutorials 🥹
