Not sure anyone’s saying the turnout was about the shutdown. More that the turnout reflected how much people hate the economy (including growing income inequality and desperation of those on its lower rungs), and are ready to fight for a different and better set of policies.

Hmm, I immediately assumed this was kind of a joke given all six guys are quite attractive. Like, if the photos were of six beautiful young women, would no one notice that fact, and decide it was part of a joke-y take on who’s the active player in looking-at vs. being looked at.

A lot of insurance policies won’t pay for abortion. Federal government health plans haven’t paid for abortion since before 1986 (the year I joined). How can banning ACA insurance from paying for abortion turn into a national ban on abortion?

Not least, all the books are pure decor. Couldn’t illustrate any more clearly that the incumbent, despite his vast power and responsibility, never reads anything.

It is a fasces, though, and it’s a consistent design feature in the WH. Wikipedia: “As an emblem, fasces made their way [from the U.K to the 13 colonies]. There…the fasces' symbology as referencing strength through unity was adopted as a symbol of the united colonial effort against British rule.

The poll operates on the basis it’s correct to assign credit or blame to a president for whatever happens in his term. But Roe v Wade was decided by a court majority that Trump deliberately and obviously engineered, and is seen it as such. No surprise people forget the timing but ID the fault.

Seems even more important now to support Jordan Silverman via this GoFundMe (set up by a longterm friend who never turned against him as so many others did)

As a (onetime) small retail bookshop owner, I also used B&T very happily and productively for several years. Then they shut the service down to booksellers. B&T’s was a very automated process, so the potential savings from dropping us were unclear. But this info re: private equity is illuminating

These are the 5 Senators who have, in different ways, pushed back the most against Trump (and most do not represent any ranching constituencies) - so it looks like not only a win but maybe the thin end of the wedge?

Is there anything at all religious in a marriage ceremony at city hall?

In our very white family, my brothers and I had our Uncle Dave, Uncle Dwight, Aunt Ann, Aunt Polly and more, none of whom were relatives at all. And some of them lived near us and were godparents so we were closer to them than our far-away “real” aunt. Calling out Mamdani is beyond ridiculous.

Meanwhile the GOP drenched the citizenry in propaganda about how Democrats *only* care about defunding the police, coddling immigrants, trans people in bathrooms, etc., and many swing voters believed it and swung to Trump.
Not sure how the Dems get out of this mess, but it won’t be easy. 2/2

While Democrats focused on economic issues and began to downplay abortion, back away from LGBTQ+ support, run away from anything pro-immigration, and ignore the slaughter in Gaza, a huge number of voters who care about abortion rights, LGBTQ, immigrants & Gaza stayed home and didn’t vote. 1/2
