former documentary producer and writer. aspiring science communicator, interested in marine plastic pollution and harmful algal blooms.
full-time daughter. professional daydreamer.
It’s been three years since the HABs Watch Project was launched in the Philippines. Grateful to have met people from different institutions across the country, even more grateful to have them as friends, even though the project has ended and we have moved on to different paths and things.

That time our PI asked me to deliver a lecture on marine science communication for his class. Fun time. Would love to do this more, but I’m out of the lab.

I think the worst is over, and I acknowledge the fact that we are more fortunate than our other countrymen who experienced the full devastation of the typhoon. Grateful for the Sierra Madre mountain range that shielded us from the worst of it. Hopefully we can in turn protect in from destruction.

I know ICHA 2025 just concluded recently, but it’s been two years since we were at ICHA 2023 in Japan. I shared a poster presentation of my study on the info generation and dissemination for HABs in two localities in the Philippines. So happy I was able to join my labmates for this conference.

When you’re the oldest, but the shortest. Fieldwork during the workshop at Mindanao State University Naawan October 28, 2022. It was low tide, so we had to improvise and use the bucket method. I learned so much during this time and got really interested in learning more about #harmfulalgalblooms

I miss joining fieldwork. This was in 2022 (I think?) in Zambales. #fieldwork #watersampling #HABs

Appalling how some people in government refuse to acknowledge that a significant seascape exists! The West Philippine Sea is there, we didn’t make it up. This is what happens when science-deniers are in positions of power. We need to shout louder to drown out the stupid.

I have a team of amazing young women who help me bring science closer to the people.

We brainstorm ideas, I give direction and provide the words, and we have two graphics artists and one video editor who help make the vision into reality.

This is mostly what I do.

Here’s little bit more info about myself. I used to work in television as a documentary producer and writer.

I got assigned to cover a marine scientific expedition of Filipino scientists to the West Philippine Sea in 2017. And then I was hooked.
