The choice to break out access to registers on a PCI optical fiber card fifteen years prior now enables to easily substitute a register-compatible USB variant of said card, using a vast part of the same fiber card register nitty gritty with both card types.

Screenschot from the presentation "The Past, Present and Future of Programming Languages" by Kevlin Henney at ACCU Conference 2025: TIOBE Index for March 2025 March Headline: The dinosaurs strike back It is interesting to see that very old languages are sneaking into the TIOBE index top 20. Fortran and Delphi are competing for a top 10 position, whereas COBOL and this month's new entry Ada are a little bit further down the list. All of them show an uptrend. Why is this? Why aren't the new and promising languages shining instead? I think that it has to do with the many vital legacy systems that keep the world running. Most of them are developed with the aid of these dinosaur languages. Now that the last of the core developers of these systems are about to retire, companies avoid any risk and choose to keep the existing systems and even extend them rather than replacing them by newer systems based on more modern languages. Note that we name these languages dinosaurs, but they have evolved over time and are pretty up to date. All of them have new language definitions. Check out Fortran 2023, Delphi 12 (released in 2024), Ada 2023 and COBOL 2023. We might frown to see these languages being in the TIOBE index top 20, but they definitely serve a purpose and deserve credit.

A kitten's pawsome home.
Science @ Leiden A little home for the science kitten directly in front of the Gorlaeus Building's entrance. The home has a sloped roof and is decorated with white paws on a dark bakground allover. It is placed in a small crate of ca. 30 x 20 cm2, a little bowl with water and canister of undetermined content next to it.

De gedragscode definieert vijf principes van wetenschappelijke integriteit, 61 normen voor goede onderzoekspraktijken en zorgplichten voor de instellingen. Met deze code sluit Nederland aan bij internationale ontwikkelingen op het gebied van wetenschappelijke integriteit. Principes kunnen worden gezien als ‘deugden’ van een goede onderzoeker; die brengen de onderzoeker ertoe in allerlei verschillende omstandigheden de juiste keuzes te maken. Important work, nice interview.
My neural network peaked at the remark on "removing the meaning of words, phrases, jargon" by 'ai' businesses. Fascism employs removing meaning of words and thus the work that words may perform: to think and express clearly and effectively. Not unlikely being 'born' from a need to avoid, evade experiencing uncertainty / reflecting on oneself, and as a result possibly leading to a 'desire' to hold power over others. In the small, at large, by different means. It's a mental configuration formed early in childhood. I'll stop here :)
