It was frustrating - but I got mine through Best Buy... eventually. After they started pre-orders half an hour late, queued me for another half hour, then EMPTIED MY CART. I selected a different bundle and then it worked in just a few minutes. Why? I wish I knew.

And if you didn't already have MemCardPro2 then you'll find it super useful just in general. It'll do auto cloud save backups, among other things. Using even a 4GB MicroSD card will enable thousands of save slots.

The memory card method isn't quite as performant as a hard drive, but it's surprisingly good all things considered (though it seems to depend on PS2 model as they have different mem card port read speeds). And you can FTP to MemCardPro so you don't have to take it in and out all the time.
