Phantasy Star feels like it's having a moment right now. The PS TTRPG has been the #2 item on @drivethrurpg.com since its release. I've been enjoying the Phantasy Star and Rieko Kodama chapters in @aidanmoher.com 's Fight, Magic, Items book. Can a new single player PS game be coming. I hope so!

I only owned a few JPN SNES and GB games back in the day. I don't recall them being so bulky. I think the big Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy manuals were just for the West. Now, Japan has a serious tradition of deluxe printed game guides though. Like the Mario 64 one with hand made dioramas!

It was great seeing so many inspired, creative games at #vancouvergamegarden today. It's running tomorrow as well. There are some game dev talks in the theatre as well. Well worth checking out. And it's FREE!

Chancho Tortilleria on Commercial Drive makes their own corn tortillas so I made home-made carnitas tacos and black bean refritos to go with them.

We covered Kaya Miyano's light card game 'Nana', in our last episode. I was pleased to find the North American version called 'Trio' at my local drug store London Drugs. It's a steal at $20 CAD. Pick it up! @cocktailgames.bsky.social and Randolph.ca in French Canada.

That's Jericho for me. It captures that post 9-11 energy perfectly. There is a graphic novel that depicts what would happen in season 3. www.imdb.com/title/tt0805...

I'm afraid you will have to go to the 6th floor of Parco in Shibuya, Tokyo. Or that's where I got it. They also had Yakuza/Like. A Dragon cuddle pillows but I had a hard time convincing my wife that I should get one. 🤷‍♂️

Harvest (ハーベスト) was surprisingly fun. I kept rereading the rules asking myself, "Is that it?" No it's not deep, but there are some surprising tactical considerations. The play area is so small that it feels like a knife fight in a phone booth!

Ryu has a real raging mullet, which I love for him. It foreshadows his hidden wild side that will soon be unleashed!

I saw a few small gacha shops near Metrotown and Crystal Mall area on Kingsway today. It just seems a bit sad compared to Sunshine 60 in Ikebukuro. Imagine this in every direction.

Here's my haul from the Shizuoka Surugaya Flagship store. I could have gone harder but time was limited. There was a good balance of fairly priced rarer games and fire sale priced common games. I believe my kids and I got 20 games for about $100 CAD. $5 for a game is not so bad!

Being in Japan means I get to try some different Nintendo Classics including the original Shin Megami Tensei! You need to download the classics app (Famicom or Sufami). The libraries mostly overlap but there are a few nice treats. Don't expect these to be translated into English though.

Just be aware that if you're visiting the Shizuoka Surugaya Flagship store, that there is a small satellite storefront for old movie goods, LPs, Boys Love doujin and idol goods. Make sure to go to the main store pictured below.

The Surugaya Flagship store in Shizuoka City is a real treat for retro game fans. It's well worth your visit on the way to Osaka, Kyoto or Tokyo since it is close to the Shinkansen station.

The Surugaya joy continues at the Flagship store in Shizuoka.

We went to the Surugaya Flagship store in Shizuoka City. It was totally worth a visit. Just be aware that there is a separate "outlet" section where you can get various games for ¥100-500 (about $1-5 CAD). I spent so much time in the regular area that I barely got to see the Outlet games!
