This reminds me: I wonder if Mark Jones would've ever imagined a piece of art from a licensed NES game ending up on a official Marvel tee from Japan

@aragon-honnin.bsky.social's books have arrived. Ever since discovering the NORI figures from Pop Mart I've become ever more curious about Aragon's other works, and with the release of a new book this year I finally had the opportunity to check them out. ありがとう!

It wasn't just Palsoft that was unable to sell retailers on a cutesy shooter at that point, the planned release of Space Fantasy Zone around this time was cancelled due to the same market realities (as explained in the September 1995 issue of PC Engine Fan)

New high score 🫡

This is my best score! The game is very addicting...

$20 for Blue (Da Ba Dee) is still worth $20 more than I'm Good (Blue)...

Also, Japanese CD Singles are a lot of fun!

It looks like this book is a print-on-demand publication, as the date I ordered the book is printed on the back.

There's something really amusing about a book centred around a Manchester club being printed in Nevada.

Recently picked up Freaky Dancing: The Complete Collection, Paul Gill and @stepickford.bsky.social's illustrated ode to the rave epicentre of Manchester.

The raw energy is palpable, and as someone who's a generation and several time zones away from where this was birthed, I dare say it's timeless.

Obsessed with this VHS in the Cyan collection in which some poor sap testing Riven for Sega Saturn eventually shuts the game off... and starts up a X-Men vs. Street Fighter play session instead

[CTN-038] RYZEEN
Super Locomotive's classic theme and its inspiration together on a disc, sort of.
! Actually Shinji Hosoe's Rydeen tribute, and its Mega Drive Mini 2 port
+ Inspired use of the Single format
+ Volume difference between tracks not too bad
- That cover art is AI-generated, isn't it...

"EVE X" Special Soundtrack
Soundtrack to the 2000s EVE revival, ambient and jazz galore.
+ BGM that stays in the background, put it on and go do something else
+ Beautifully relaxing at times
- Too squeezy for single CD, some tracks end earlier than I'd like
- Stack of loose inserts kind of unwieldy

Watching the spanish mountains go by while listening to @mcalby.bsky.social's tunes... a match made in heaven

Label: NEW FIELD
Artist: Tadahiro Nitta
Released: 29th April, 2024

Favorite track: All of them. It really is short and sweet!

Oh, and here's what that postcard looks like!

[NFTN2404] Oasis in 2op - "CLOAD"
Tadahiro Nitta revisits his most famous tunes, combining original hardware with synths of the period.
+ Breathes new life into classic compositions
! Unbelievable how well the synths complement the MSX
- Kind of wish there was more, really
+ Comes with cool postcard

[CTN-011] MIDNIGHT RESISTANCE Original Soundtrack
Collects the Data East arcade classic and its Mega Drive port.
+ Thick booklet, detailed liner notes
+ Hitoshi Sakimoto's MD port is amazing
- ...To the point that you will skip the arcade tracks.
! But don't, because the port leaves out some bangers
November 5, 2024 at 2:58 PM
[EMCX-0002] GROUNSEED "THE ORIGIN"
Much-belated release of Ryu Takami's masterpiece, and some Umemoto bangers too.
+ Just LISTEN TO IT
- Was bundled with 3 other Umemoto OSTs; might be hard to find on its own
! Personally made a special trip to Mandarake in Japan just for this album, it was worth it

[WM-0851~3] DYNA BROTHERS 1&2 -Music Album-
One of the Mega Drive's most hidden gems.
+ Energetic melancholy makes for unique atmosphere
+ Bonus arranges complement originals well
+ Liner notes go at length and into loving detail
- 3 CDs are a tight squeeze... 2nd game split awkwardly into 2 discs

Alright, let's try this again. This time, I have a format!
Pluses (+) are what I like about the albums, minuses (-) are what I think detract from the experience. Exclamations (!) are points of interest or words of caution I think you'd want to know.
Check their threads for favourite tracks and more.

Was over at a friend's place, rummaging through stuff the previous tenants left there, and rescued the most 90s CD selection you can imagine- Eagles, Cher, Kitano, S.E.N.S., and so on.

This Hotel California CD stands out for its title song, and is worth the whole binder it came in (in my opinion!).

[SRIN-1108] Magical Chase Original Soundtrack
(Mandarake, ~¥2000)

Here is a soundtrack that rewards whatever attention you pay it. On casual listening, it's a light and breezy affair that's easy cute-em-up listening. Pay attention to the details, and the sheer mastery on display makes itself known.

[WM-0761] SEGA AGES OutRun -Music Collection-
(Mandarake, ~¥1500)

The original soundtrack I'm sure needs no introduction, but the tightly curated selection of new compositions and remixes of overlooked songs from the series's past complement the original arcade tunes well. Definitely recommended.

When I came across Time Out on the Jazz shelf at Disk Union, I was faced with four printings of Time Out to choose from. None were the AP SACD that audiophiles swear by, but I eventually settled on the Jazz Immortals on CD (32DP) release. It has hard-panned instruments that are great on the hi-fi!

[32DP 593] The Dave Brubeck Quartet - Time Out
(Disk Union, ~¥400)

I'd only listened to Take Five on streaming prior to owning this one. Surprisingly, the unusual time signatures do not distract from the album's pleasant jazz arrangements. Perfect background music for unwinding after a long trip.
