That's a shame because, as you say, it's a brilliant Christmas feel good song.
I didn't know, until I joined in with music challenges, that Slade didn't achieve (a lot of) success in the US until the mid-80s. By that stage, in the Uk, they were iconic because of Merry Xmas Everybody.

Something else that I read on that website is that Hip To Be Square never made the UK Top 40. I was really surprised to read that. It peaked at No 41.
