To return to the cited example, although the cell certainly can contain lots of junk (technical term; they don't use it due to a desire to avoid jargon), I think it unlikely that the cell contains much more junk than necessary, suggesting to me that "plethora" is an ill-chosen descriptor.

You should consult President Juggalo—there may have been changes since I studied this—but, at the time I was an undergraduate, ferromagnetism was a phenomenon we would have described as being basically understood.

I saw him stand up before an audience expecting a scientific seminar and give a screed made up entirely of racist and sexist pseudoscience, enlivened by fat-shaming and sex-pest jokes of the kind beloved by 13 year old boys. This was in the year 2000. He told us who he was. I believed him.
