It's a little overdesigned for me, lots of bits and bobbles that date it to its era, but I love Gabe's story and how he was in that Trekkies doc as a kid and did end up working on the finale of ENT (the montage of ships at the end), achieving his dream!

Interesting! Maybe I need to revisit it.

Also I wanted to note specifically that your video is, to me, more compelling than the book was.

I read this book, and while I appreciated it, I feel like so much of it felt specifically about birdwatching! Maybe I'm being reductive, it's been a bit since I read it, and I dig the larger themes it proposes, but the "how" missed me bc the solution the book offered was "go birdwatching"

It was a stronger take before they replaced puppet Yoda w CG in subsequent re-edits and remasters etc. Puppet Yoda, the cool villain in Darth Maul, the Duel of the Fates music, and the podracing scene which people still remember all make it a more interesting and memorable Star Wars.

Not only do I agree, I go further: original despecialized star wars as a standalone film is the best Star Wars experience.

The og film is a wonderful pastiche of Kurosawa, Flash Gordon, and modern special effects. The moment Empire starts and it becomes a "universe" it is diminished.

My hot take is that Phantom Menace is the best of the prequels. I find the other two pretty much unwatchable.

Quick clarification question, is all that written on the fish or is the fish saying it as you are slapping people with it? 🙂

I'm also curious what "try this next time" instructions Alito and Thomas will bring to their concurrences.

I was just saying to myself that I would probably take the money. The only thing that would give me pause is how much I would be screwing over all the people on the Republican ticket under me who are counting on me to lead the ticket, but even then...

People contain multitudes, including our evil politicians. I appreciate you adding the context. :)

George W. Bush was also famously pro-immigration thanks to his time as Governor of Texas, and before 9/11 he was actively trying to push the GOP away from nativism. So much for that.
