Biodiversity Without Borders is, above all, an invitation to look beyond borders: to see ecological and social systems as linked.

It also helps keep advancing the idea that landscapes, ecosystems, and people are interconnected — and that conservation should be designed with this reality in mind.

For now, the company ensures that any surplus is reinvested into its mission. It gives me a framework through which I can contribute to meaningful conservation efforts and develop collaborative partnerships.

If this model proves useful, the organisation may grow into a full NGO with a more structured programme of work.

This would help build a portfolio of practical examples demonstrating what cross-boundary, connectivity-based thinking can achieve.

These are early days. There is currently no external funding, though I may soon have a small amount that would allow me to dedicate some time to smaller organisations, community initiatives, or research groups that need technical support.

The organisation therefore seeks to promote approaches that work across jurisdictions, sectors, and stakeholder groups — whether at local, regional, national, or transboundary scales.

Effective solutions require people, institutions, and knowledge to flow just as freely as ecological processes do.

At its core, Biodiversity Without Borders is about collaboration. Environmental challenges rarely fit neatly into the boundaries used by governments, sectors, or agencies.

The aim is also to strengthen the ecosystem services that underpin human wellbeing, and to help communities reconnect with nature in ways that are socially meaningful and locally grounded.

This experience naturally shapes the organisation’s vision, but the remit is broader than ecological connectivity alone.

My professional background is in connectivity conservation — understanding how species, ecosystems, and ecological processes move across landscapes, and how human decisions either support or disrupt these movements.
