This just strikes me as ‘grass roots’ populist policy that they failed to considered the implications of. Now there’s all this ‘it was designed only for super serious issues’ but the leg doesn’t even say that. Agreed though, this is why we have elections.

interesting connection. Brexit and referendums strike me as unique in that they unbundle complex questions about tradeoffs into one questions without reference to said tradeoffs. Hence parliamentary system better at working through said tradeoffs, which are the things that are important to people

What are the strongest candidates for humanlike traits? Not trying to get into an argument, just curious! Also, have you checked out any of @romainbrette.bsky.social work? I really like his work, as he's trained in CS but also knows psychology, neuroscience and the philosophy of mind.

Higher minimum wage is smart. Unions are now protectors of the well paid, most people aren’t in unions (mostly public sect) and many are gig workers now. Much much harder to unionize service industry vs factory workers. Decades of courts hostile to unions in the US make it v hard as well.

I’m curious how this develops. If they kick her out as leader the odds of another UCP win seem to go down, as theyll replace her with someone even more extreme. With the added immigration from other provinces, which skews younger, chances of NDP win goes up. They’re shooting themselves in the foot.
