Sometimes you get an idea for a space cyberpunk soccer story and spend an afternoon writing a couple scenes so you have something to remind you what the idea was all about when you finally have time to come back to it in 7 years.

It's kind of funny how much more substantial writing 1500 words feels like when you're at the beginning of a book than later on.
Going from 6k words to 7.5k words is like, "Yo, I'm making so much progress!" Whereas going from 35k to 36.5k is like, "I'm never getting to the end of this book, am I?"

Very pleased that, after several weeks of painfully writing and rewriting and rewriting the first 500 words of the first chapter of the new book, it seems I have finally found the voice for the story that will allow me to continue forward.

Probably this is purple prose, a darling to be killed (and it is being, as the story to which it belonged is being repurposed), but damn, this certainly is the kind of writing I love doing most.
