Having trained Victorians during January that you don't need to touch on/off on weekends, or pay, there might be a bit of confusion tomorrow on the public holiday...

If this thread hasn’t already found its way onto your timeline, do take the time to have a read.
A few days ago, I stood in the graveyard of an 1100 year old church, getting damper and damper in the drizzling rain.

A woman walked into the graveyard, waved, said hello, and, as we had previously arranged, handed me a paper bag full of human bones.

The life of a churchwarden is a strange one...

S found this in an opshop. The last edition from 2013 - killed by satnav. I didn’t even know there was a 9th edition; I still have & use a 7th in the car for rural trips when needed

This image is insightful - a rail break (at or close to a weld in this instance) could be the trigger. While an already derailed train could have broken the rail at the weld, the lack of damage to the track running up to it suggests not.

I don't get...

Trump's demand that Denmark *sell* Greenland. But there is no way Denmark could sell people and territory - that era has passed. So the demand is impossible.

But I've seen no media anywhere on this.

Am I wrong about the current view of countries selling people and territory?

Replacing the bogie under a derailed wheat hopper at Jacana today. Don’t know what caused the derailment - the bogie looked intact later on

The investigation has decided that it's the tunnelling crew's fault. They conducted a scheduled pressure test. The internal procedures that crews have to follow have now been rewritten and additional monitoring equipment installed.

Prof Anne Twomey on the history of the Federal government attempting to ban organisations they do not agree with - and that the High Court has resolutely overturned laws where the ban is based on the "mere declaration of the executive government"

As the government brings its new hate laws to parliament, it’s worth remembering past attempts suggest legislation used to outlaw political groups have been neither wise nor necessary

Mckinnon has a bad pigeon problem. Pigeon shit everywhere - don’t try holding onto handrails even if you’re wobbly.

Of course someone is feeding the pigeons

This article certainly gave me the irrites.

The question "which level of government would you abolish" didn't have an option "none". Another question suggested abolishing state level parliaments, but leaving the bureaucracy (seriously?).

Australians love their councils – but still want to get rid of them
We rely on them for roads and rubbish collection – and a new poll shows people think councils are our best level of government.

Given the mistakes and perculiar expressions (*) you'd have to wonder if the origin of this article was a LLM.

(*) Have you ever found a bathroom on a V'locity? Why even mention the fact that V'locities have toilets - all other trains mentioned have too.

Black Maserati at the traffic lights. Personalised numberplates.

Driver couldn't accelerate it from the lights faster than a 16 year old manual Corolla driven by a dad. But the car sure made an impressive amount of noise accelerating.

K brought home a Singer sewing machine she found in a neighbours hard rubbish. I was amused that Singer enthusiasts are even more organised than signalling ones. Their database said it is a model 99K made on 7 Apr 1948 in Clydebank. The site even linked to the user manual :-)
