In unrelated news the nominations for the 2025 Darwin Awards will remain open until New Year. You too could become the most watched video of 2026. :-)

So "Ship Shipson"? :-) seriously I thought the kennings were more in the line with wavedancer and Seastallion (but then that's already taken).

2/2. The NLS has the right to remove disruptive elements from their premises. These are not the Trans or queer members of the community but the Anti-Trans activists who seek to bully them.

Thank you so much. If it is from the Manchester-Sheffield Road it might be linked to the Hope Cross and the cross at Cheadle
People just aren't appreciating enough what an amazing collection of Anglo-Saxon sculpture Derbyshire has (even if you ignore Bakewell, which you definitely shouldn't)

...'energetic' is one way to describe the destruction wreaked all over Italy by his generals.

Both Chester St. Winifred (new Cathedral) and St.John (old Cathedral) are partially built on bedrock and partially on Romans (same as York, Carlisle and Newcastle(19th c. interloper).

You will enjoy it. I am pretty sure

Have you seen Carlisle Cathedral? I would dearly love to know which Roman buildings underneath are causing this:

No need to restrict yourself to Cathedrals. I have lots of photographs of wonky arches, hastily added buttresses and records of continuing repairs to Go this parish churches from all over Europe.
As a priest once said to me: Look up and tell me that God doesn't love his church - it's still here!

But my bottle of pennies is only 3/4 full....another futile art project. :-)

The thing that always gets me is that despite all that - on the whole (Coventry, I see you) they survived WWII better than their Romanesque predecessors.

But there is a team of 30 people and a highly skilled Dombaumeister who makes sure of that - despite the Südbahn. :-). Greetings from another Cologne person in exile

On second thoughts and going to the pictures again. This is either an incomplete cross with one part of the vertical shaft missing or two different crosses combined. Possibly the cross head coming from a later cross. Still amazing carvings
