Just a thought. Would it be tactile enough if there were a moat around each pip, and the pips themselves were level with the face? Then you paint the moat.

Back in the older times, the mens room tended to be less clean, or at least that was the stereotype. I know my husband would complain about a gas station bathroom that was single cubicle, where the women’s cubicle was ok.
But in a building with regular cleaning, that would be absurd.
