🤔 but like... WHY though? what makes the dillweed think that teachers are dealing with psychosis? is it like, some sorta jab at teachers supporting trans folks? is it because people deny historical revisionism? usually when people misuse mental illness classifications its for some disparaging reason
November 23, 2025 at 5:44 AM
i assume this is people talking about teachers that have a thing about having power over people, and abusing said power?
November 23, 2025 at 4:54 AM
but as time goes on libraries are evolving to have so many more Things in them that having dedicated people to fix said things is a huge bonus. i think it's a job title that will get more common as time goes on but who knows. librarians are also very stuck in their ways

it's such a weird field cause i wanna say there's only a small handful of libraries in our system with a dedicated IT department. usually it's someone doing reference work and managing servers on the side (crazy to me. that's too much work), or outsourced labor in some capacity
November 23, 2025 at 4:46 AM
it's a lot of "yes and" and "no but." the ultimate goal is to provide services to people that they'll use, or even enjoy, and a good deal of that is working with passionate people on silly problems and finding even sillier answers- plus finding new technology that proposes to solve said problems
November 23, 2025 at 4:46 AM
IT in libraries is definitely different than IT in other systems- for one, you're dealing with folks who specialize in learning/acquiring knowledge and their specialized machines and software also meant for that purpose. i'd say they're a lot more sensitive too (in a good "not dead inside" way).

i only got the IT job because i knew the library pretty well by then (and how it worked) and i did programming classes in college. it turns out i pretty consistently use skills from both the artistic and the computer sides of my education
November 23, 2025 at 4:35 AM
my degree is i believe something like communications- a mixture of studio art/art history/media criticism and computer science. i wanted to get into games initially but as i got through college, having to be creative constantly on-demand was SO draining.

i think the moral of the story is to study what you're passionate about because it will give you depth that you might not see coming
November 23, 2025 at 4:25 AM
everyone chiming in with their odd degrees just makes me wanna point out that you never know how your education will influence the choices you make and what new insight you bring to your job! it's so cool to me to see how disciplines interact
