Ser Arlan probably avoiding the jousting lists because he was better in the melee. He'd be the only guy out there dual wielding warhammer's while holding a shield

4 lances? 7 lances? If Arlan wanted to really impress them he should've just shown them his dick

I noticed a plot hole in the Dunk and Egg show. The Lords may not have remembered Ser Arlan of Pennytree for his knightly valor, but they'd remember the cudgel between his legs

It must be a sign from the Old God's. Today the Blue Jays will be stellar. They may be in the weeds now, but it's a great place to pick for food

Listening to Nick Cave with my 7yo. She loves Where the Wild Roses Grow. I thought the meaning was over her head. She puzzled it out, so now my kid happily sings a murder ballad. Is there a word for being both proud and ashamed?

More stuff like this please! This is (part of) what we need. You can speak and make noise even if you don't control the Executive or Legislative Branch of the federal government. Governors...you're up!
Good on you Pritzger.

When a man takes an oath, Meg, he’s holding his own self in his own hands. Like water. And if he opens his fingers then—he needn’t hope to find himself again.

It might be an unpopular opinion, but I really feel like the dad from the Cats in the Cradle song could've done more to be relevant to his sons life.

Yes i'm religious, I believe in the holy trinity.

And like any trinitarian, I wait.

You read a lot about things being done unceremonious, but just once I'd like to read about someone ceremoniously dumped onto the ground, or ceremoniously hefted onto a shoulder.

If you're looking for something to watch this weekend with young kids, Spellbound might be worth a look. My 6 year old daughter was into it the entire time, which is the most important metric. Pretty good introduction to D&D inspired fantasy.

New podcast called Autocracy in America by the Atlantic, developed by Anne Applebaum, who has been writing about autocracy for years. I'm pretty sure everyone who sees this message is pretty aware of the authoritarian direction the republican nominee is taking the country, but still worth your time

GRRM must be a golfer. It's no coincidence Robert's Warhammer is described similarly to a putter, and no coincidence with the anger he wields it. A Storm Lord missed a putt and a dynasty fell... was probably a Par 3

Do you have any recommendations for an English TV sitcom?

I've just finished Peep Show for the third or fourth time, and have seen The Inbetweeners a couple times as well. I assume Channel 4 must have more funny shows.

From Howls Moving Castle:

And Sophie was suddenly overwhelmed by the fact that she was standing talking to the King. It was, she thought dizzily, as if the man sitting there and the huge, important thing which was kingship were two separate things that just happened to occupy the same chair.
